TSX- and NYSE-listed Equinox Gold has achieved commercial production at its Valentine gold mine in Newfoundland and Labrador.

CEO Darren Hall said the operation was performing ahead of expectations, with plant availability, throughput and recoveries all exceeding commissioning-period assumptions.

“For the last 60 days, the Valentine process plant averaged 5 451 t/d – 80% of the nameplate capacity of 6 850 t/d – with gold recovery averaging over 93% on lower-grade commissioning feed of 1.2 g/t gold,” Hall stated.

The company expects the project to deliver at the upper end of its fourth-quarter production guidance of 15 000 oz to 30 000 oz. Equinox said it remained on track to reach nameplate capacity by the second quarter of 2026, supporting its forecast of 150 000 oz to 200 000 oz of gold production from Valentine next year.

Meanwhile, Equinox is progressing Phase 2 studies that would lift mill throughput to five-million tonnes a year. This would double the mine’s current nameplate capacity and represents an increase from the four-million-tonne-a-year design outlined in the 2022 feasibility study.

Hall said he was “incredibly proud” of the team for ramping up operations responsibly and ahead of schedule, adding that Valentine would play a central role in Equinox’s production growth profile into 2026.
